✅Justice DY Chandrachud takes oath as 50th Chief Justice of India

Witness, New Delhi: Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India. President Draupadi Murmu was administered the oath by him in this program held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. After the retirement of CJI Justice YU Lalit on November 8, Justice DY Chandrachud took charge as his successor.

Justice DY Chandrachud will continue as CJI for two years till November 10, 2024. His father Justice YV Chandrachud was also made CJI! Justice YV Chandrachud served as the CJI for the longest period from 22nd February 1978 to 11th July 1985. Justice Chandrachud, known as a progressive judge, hails from a family of lawyers.

Justice Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud and Prabha were born on November 11, 1959 in Maharashtra.

Schooled at Cathedral, John Canon, Mumbai and completed his Honors degree in Economics and Mathematics from Delhi in 1979. Graduated in Law from Delhi in 1982.

He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1983 with an LLM. In 1986, he received his Doctorate of Juridical Science from Harvard. Worked as an advocate in Bombay High Court and Supreme Court.

In 1998, he was promoted to Senior Advocate and appointed as Additional Solicitor General of the Supreme Court.

Appointed as a judge of Bombay High Court in 2000. In 2013, he was promoted as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. Appointed as Supreme Court Judge in 2016.

He also served as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority. His two sons Abhinav and Chintan are also lawyers.
