What is the controversy?
Last month (August 22) Shiv Sena applied to rent Shivaji Park ground for Dussehra rally in the month of October. A week later, local Shiv Sena MLA Sada Sarvaskar also applied on behalf of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction. After that, the Uddav group applied once again (August 26) reminding that the ground would be rented for a few days, but no response was received from the BMC.
As per BMC rules and regulations, only those who apply first should be allowed. But the BMC has taken a decision not to rent the Shivaji Park ground to Shiv Sena chief Uddav’s faction. However, as the BMC did not give permission for months, Uddav Thackeray’s faction filed a petition in the High Court.
For 55 years except four times..
After Bal Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena party almost 55 years ago, the Dussehra rally has been held at the Shivaji Park ground every year except for four times during this long period. After Bal Thackeray’s death in 2012, his son Uddhav Thackeray continues this tradition. With this, the Uddav faction is arguing that they have the right to hold the Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park ground.
