Krishnakumar Pandey (75), a senior Congress leader and general secretary of Congress Seva Dal, who participated in the yatra, passed away. Krishnakumar from Nagpur participated in the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra in Maharashtra’s Nanded district. He fell seriously ill during a walk along with party leaders Jairam Ramesh and Digvijay Singh. Although he was rushed to the hospital, there was no benefit. The doctors declared that he had already lost his life.

After going a short distance, he handed over the flag to the person next to him and said that he had a pain in his heart. “The tragedy happened before he was taken to the hospital,” he said. Jairam Ramesh recalled that Pandey worked for the party till his last breath.

Meanwhile, Krishnakumar’s body was moved from the hospital to the place where the Bharat Jodo Yatra is taking place. There Rahul Gandhi, other leaders and activists paid tribute to the late leader. Later, the body was handed over to Krishnakumar’s son Sheelaj Pandey, who participated in the padayatra along with his father.

He expressed his deepest condolences to his well-wishers and family members. He said that his carrying the national flag even in his last moments shows his devotion to the country.
Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan said that 25 doctors will be available in the Yatra team. However, he said that measures will be taken to allow elderly pilgrims and those with other health problems to participate in the yatra by conducting tests in advance. It has been revealed that the meeting to be held on Tuesday evening will be held as a memorial meeting for Pandey.
