Thiruvananthapuram: It is known that there have been speculations that the party’s senior leader Shashi Tharoor will contest for the post of Congress President. But he responded to these. He said that he cannot say anything about contesting in the presidential election. He said that he would clarify this in three weeks. Can’t say more at the moment.
Tharoor said that even if he does not say anything that is not competitive, he can say one thing for sure. He said that holding elections in a democratic party is always a good result. Tharoor claimed that the Gandhi family had already made it clear that they would not contest the presidential election. He said it would be better if non-Gandhi became the president of Congress.
There was a campaign that even if no one from the Gandhi family contested the Congress presidential election in October, Shashi Tharoor would be in the field even if Rajasthan CM Ashok Gahlet stood on their behalf. In a recent editorial for a news magazine, Tharoor stated that elections should be transparent. Moreover, apart from nominations, Tharoor suggested that elections should also be held to elect members of the Congress Working Committee.
Anyone can compete..
AICC leader Jairam Ramesh Tharoor, who is visiting Kerala as part of Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign, responded to Tharoor’s comments. He clarified that the schedule for the Congress presidential election has already been announced and anyone can contest. He said that the new Congress president will be announced on October 17.
