Witness, Mumbai: Surekha Yadav also created history as the first woman loco pilot to drive the Vande Bharat Express train in the country. Surekha Yadav worked as a locopilot (driver) in the Vande Bharat Express train running between Solapur-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Railway officials handed over the reins of the Vande Bharat Express train which left Solapur towards CSMT on Monday afternoon to Surekha.
Surekha Yadav, who has served various services in the Indian Railways for 34 years, has experience driving both goods trains and passenger trains. She thanked the Indian Railways for giving her this honor saying that her dream of running the Vande Bharat Express has come true. This train, which left Sholapur on Monday afternoon according to the time table, reached CSMT five minutes earlier.
Here she got a warm welcome. Running a train on the Khandala-Karjat ghat section is like a knife edge for a loco pilot. Vande Bharat does not have a separate engine unlike other express trains. Surekha studied at St. Paul’s School in Satara District, Maharashtra and completed her Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Appointed as Assistant Locopilot in 1989. After completing the training, in 1996, he took up duties as a goods train driver. In 2000, she was honored as Motor Woman. Trained in 2010 in Ghat Section Train Driving. After that, he worked as a loco pilot for the Deccan Queen Express train running between Pune and Mumbai without any remark. Now she has been showered with praise as she has succeeded in driving the Vande Bharat Express train as well.
