digital desk, New Delhi. Bharat Biotech said on Wednesday that the booster dose of the vaccine is effective in neutralizing the Omicron variant of Kovid-19.

A statement from the company said on Wednesday that according to a study conducted at Emory University in the US, a booster dose of Covaccine is able to neutralize the new variant.

Earlier studies have demonstrated the neutralizing ability of covaccine against other worrying SARS-CoV-2 variants such as alpha, beta, delta, zeta and kappa.

The new study demonstrated sera from subjects who had received a booster dose of covaccine six months after receiving a primary two-dose of covaccine (BBV152) and thus helped prevent SARS- CoV-2 neutralized Omicron and Delta variants.

Bharat Biotech said earlier on Saturday that covaccine is also very effective as a booster dose against corona. The company said that the vaccine will give long protection against corona in the form of a booster dose, which has shown excellent results during the trial.

Bharat Biotech has said that the booster dose of Covaccine is safe and has proved successful in building immunity. Covaccine has demonstrated long-term safety. Antibody response has also been seen against the white type strain of corona (six months after the second dose) in 90 percent of the booster doses.

Mehul Suthar, assistant professor at Emory Vaccine Center and who led the laboratory analysis, said data from this preliminary analysis shows that individuals receiving a booster dose of covaccine have a significant immune response to both the Omicron and delta variants. . These findings suggest that booster doses have the potential to reduce disease severity and hospitalization.

According to Bharat Biotech, the same dose of a specially formulated formulation can be given to adults and children alike. Covaccine is a ready-to-use, liquid vaccine stored at 2-8 °C, with a shelf life of 12 months and a multi-dose viol policy.

In the wake of Omicron, many countries have introduced a third booster dose to combat rising infections. India has also started a precautionary dose i.e. booster dose for health workers and the elderly from January 10.
