Digital Densk, Bangalore. Cybercrime police in Karnataka has arrested a man for allegedly duping 26 women on the pretext of marriage. The accused used matrimonial sites to trace their victims. The accused was arrested after he tried to cheat a woman working in the police department.

The accused has been identified as Jai Bhim Vithal Padukoti (33), a resident of Vijaypur. Apart from confiscating a luxury car from him, the police have also confiscated his bank accounts. After the death of his father, the accused got a job as a lineman in Hescom. He had married Kavita in 2013 and allegedly killed her after a quarrel. For this he was imprisoned for two years.

After coming out of jail after getting bail, he resorted to cheating on the pretext of marrying women to lead a luxurious life. The accused had created fake accounts in matrimonial sites claiming to be the section officer in Hescom. He used to send messages to women that he liked their profiles. Later, he used to visit the parents and relatives of the victims in their homes to win the trust. He also cheated lakhs of rupees from the families of the girls on the pretext of government jobs.

The accused managed to get details of the bank accounts of the girls who had agreed to marry him. Whenever the victim asked to return the money, he used to avoid them by threatening. The police found evidence of cheating on the accused after having physical relations with three women on the pretext of marriage.

The accused had duped 26 women in Shivamogga, Haveri, Bengaluru, Mysore, Dharwad, Hubli, Yadagiri and Raichur districts. He had also taken Rs 21.30 lakh from the victims. The accused escaped by duping a woman working in the police department in a similar manner. After seeing his movements, the victim got suspicious and informed the police.
