India and Pakistan have had their first encounter in the Asia Cup 2022. Team India made its debut in the tournament in a strong style by defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets in this match. There is still at least one more meeting between the two teams, but the discussion is currently revolving around the first match. The analysis of that match is going on and discussions are on on the positive or negative aspects of both the teams. Both the teams made some similar mistakes, for which they have now been punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The ICC has sentenced the entire team, including the captains of India and Pakistan, guilty of slow over-rate in this second match of the Asia Cup held in Dubai on Sunday 28 August. In this match, both the teams were two overs behind the scheduled time. During this, both were punished in the middle of the match, but after the end of the match, their pockets have also become loose.

40 percent match fee fine

On Wednesday 31 August, two days after the match, the ICC, in a media release, announced a penalty of 40-40 per cent of the match fee on both the teams. The ICC said that on the complaint of the three umpires during the match, match referee Jeff Crowe found both the teams 2-2 overs behind the scheduled time. According to the statement,

“According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct on Slow Over Rates for Players and their Support Staff, players are fined 20 percent of the match fee for reducing an over in the stipulated time. Both the captains accepted their mistake and they have been fined, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Punishment even during the match

The special thing is that both the teams were punished during the earlier match as well. To deal with the growing problem of slow over-rate, the ICC had made a rule that if any team is not able to complete the over in the stipulated time, then it will have to reduce one fielder outside the circle of 30 yards for the remaining overs of the innings. Teams of India and Pakistan could keep only 4-4 fielders outside the circle in the last 2-2 overs of the innings. Taking advantage of this, Pakistan added some necessary runs and took the score to 147 runs, while Hardik Pandya took advantage of it in the 19th and 20th overs and scored 3 fours and 1 six to give victory to the team.
