Corona: Why India will never know the number of infected with Omicron? – coronavirus omicron in india delhi mumbai 90 to 95 percent new covid case omicron ntc

Story Highlights

  • 1.94 lakh new cases of corona came in 24 hours
  • 407 new cases of Omicron were reported on the last day

Coronavirus in India: The third wave of corona in the country is now becoming uncontrollable. In the last 24 hours, about 2 lakh new patients have appeared. The reason for the spurt in new cases is the new variant of Corona, Omicron. Sources say that in metros like Delhi and Mumbai, 90 to 95 percent of the new cases are from Omicron. But when the Health Ministry’s bulletin comes on Omicron, the new cases of the new variant are less than 500. In such a situation, the question arises that how will the country know how much Omicron is spreading?

Sources said that Omicron is behind the rapidly increasing cases of corona in the metros of the country. Experts believe that in metros like Delhi, Mumbai, 90 to 95 percent of the new cases of corona are Omicron cases. Omicron is now rapidly replacing Delta. It is feared that due to Omicron, new cases will continue to increase rapidly in the country.

But when the Ministry of Health itself is assuming that up to 95 percent of the new cases are Omicron cases, then why is this not visible in the figures. According to the figures given by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday morning, 1.94 lakh new cases of corona have been reported in the last 24 hours. However, during this period 407 new cases of Omicron have been reported. That is, only 0.2% of the new corona cases that have come in the last 24 hours are Omicron cases.

Screw getting stuck in testing!

Now new rules have been implemented in the testing of corona as well. ICMR has issued a new guideline regarding Kovid testing as soon as there is a surge in corona cases. According to this, now everyone does not need to get tested for corona. Only those people who came in contact with the infected need to be tested, who are elderly or are suffering from some serious disease.

Apart from this, most of the states are now focusing on rapid antigen test instead of RTPCR. Taking the example of Delhi itself, in the last 24 hours, about 83 thousand tests were conducted in the capital. Of these, more than 26% are antigen tests. That is, 1 out of every 4 antigen tests are being done. Regarding Omicron, it is believed that its symptoms are mild.

Apart from Delhi, the same is happening in Maharashtra as well. The Maharashtra government had said last week that cases are increasing continuously, in such a situation it is not possible to do RTPCR test of everyone. So there will be rapid antigen test. Mild symptoms are not detectable in the antigen. If someone is infected with Omicron, there is little chance that they will report positive in the antigen.

Apart from all this, Omicron is being confirmed only by genome sequencing. But at present there are less than 40 labs in the country where genome testing is done. In such a situation, when the state governments are sending samples of positive patients for genome sequencing, their reports are taking more than a week or more than 10 days. In so many days, the patient also gets cured.

Omicron replacing Delta: WHO

It has also been said by the World Health Organization (WHO) that now Omicron is replacing Delta. WHO epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove said on Tuesday that now Omicron is replacing Delta in countries around the world. WHO said that between January 3 and 9, 1.5 crore new cases of corona have been reported worldwide. Not only this, WHO also says that in the first week of January, more than 7 million new cases of Omicron have been reported in Europe.

It is taking 40-45 days to get the report

Actually, whether a person is infected with Omicron or not, it is detected by genome sequencing. It takes weeks for the genome sequencing report to come out. Sometimes it is even months. Recently, the Jharkhand government had appealed to the central government to submit the genome sequencing report at the earliest. The Jharkhand government had said that now samples have to be sent to Bhubaneswar, from where it takes 40 to 45 days to get the report.

What is the government doing?

The government has also agreed that the delay in the report of genome sequencing is causing problems to the state governments. There are less than 40 labs in the country where genome testing is done. The central government recently approved a testing kit named Omisure. With this kit, Omicron can be detected within 4 hours. This kit was made by TataMD.
