- TMC and AAP hope to do well in assembly elections
- Regional parties can also play an important role in Goa assembly elections.
Election dates for Goa assembly elections can be announced this evening. Before the announcement of the dates, the political temperature there has heated up. The way the politics of Goa is constantly changing, it is becoming quite interesting.
In fact, at first it seemed that in Goa, as usual, there would be a contest between the BJP and the Congress. Congress had also started forming alliances. The Congress had also announced an alliance with Goa’s regional party Goa Forward (which was earlier in government under alliance with BJP), but the matter has changed with the entry of Trinamool Congress in Goa politics. With this, the Aam Aadmi Party is also trying its luck again this time. He had tried his luck in the last election too, but to no avail. On the other hand, on the question of alliance in Goa, P. Chidambaram has said that what is the offer from TMC for alliance, let’s see.
Despite Manohar Parrikar’s presence in the 2017 elections, the Congress got more seats than the BJP, but the BJP formed the government with the help of Goa Forward and another regional party Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. After Parrikar’s departure, the government of Pramod Sawant was formed. He split the Congress and got 10 Congress MLAs to join the BJP. The figure of BJP which was 13 after the election, it reached 25 after the arrival of Congress MLAs. After this, the government was formed in Goa with the full majority of the BJP. After this, Goa Forward and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party were thrown out of the government. Since then both these parties were engaged in making a new alliance in Goa.
It is interesting that after the results of the 2017 assembly elections in Goa, 50 percent of the MLAs who won are not in their party. He left his party and joined other parties. Congress’s Luizinho Faleiro and an MLA have gone to the TMC. Another Congress MLA Ravi Naik has joined the BJP. Pratap Singh Rane, who is an old Congress MLA, will not contest this time. Rane’s son is in the BJP and is working in the government as a health minister.
Former Chief Minister joins TMC
TMC started showing the game before the elections. Inducted former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro into the party. After this, it was told from TMC that for the first time after West Bengal, we are going to Goa and will try our luck there. Will replace Congress. Now news is coming that Prashant Kishor, who is the TMC’s election strategist, is trying to make an alliance of Congress and TMC. Congress ally Goa Forward president Vijay Sardesai made a tweet. He wrote that all the parties should come together against the BJP. After this, Goa TMC’s in-charge Mahua Moitra reacted that we have no problem in talking to Congress, if forging an alliance with BJP. On the other hand, Congress says that you (Prashant Kishor) harmed us and now wanting that if TMC has an alliance with us, it is not right.
There is also talk of internal agreement between Congress and AAP.
There is a discussion in Goa that there is an internal agreement between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party that even though both the parties are not in alliance with each other, the situation of Aam Aadmi Party has improved in Goa in the last five years. If the need arises after the elections, the Congress and the AAP can come together. Aam Aadmi Party does not want to take help of Prashant Kishor. Congress does not want to go with Prashant Kishor, does not want to go with TMC. In such a situation, there may be an attempt to have an alliance of Congress and AAP, but this does not seem to be possible.
For the time being, if we look at the politics of Goa, it is understood that the fight will be all-round. Congress will be on one side, Goa will be forward. On the other hand there will be TMC and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, whose alliance has been done. The BJP will be on the third side and the Aam Aadmi Party on the fourth side. It can be said that there will be a lot of fun fight in Goa.
Now it will also be interesting to see what will be the vote share of TMC after the alliance with the regional party? Can Congress save its credibility or not? Because in the last election, during Parrikar’s stay, Congress had brought more seats than BJP. It will also be interesting to see what the BJP can do apart from Parrikar, because this is the BJP’s first election here after Parrikar’s death, it will also show the importance of Parrikar. Goa election will be interesting for Aam Aadmi Party as well, because Aam Aadmi Party’s result has been good in Chandigarh civic elections. In Goa also, AAP workers and leaders have done a good job in the last five years.
