Digital Desk, Srinagar. Two terrorists killed in an encounter by security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district’s Hasanpora area have been identified. Officials gave this information on Monday. The slain terrorists have been identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani, a resident of Arigam Pulwama, and Abdul Rashid Thokar, a resident of Hasanpora.
Police said that based on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in Hasanpora village, located on the border between Kulgam and Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the police and the army on Sunday evening.
Police said, during the search operation, as the joint search team moved towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire indiscriminately, which was retaliated effectively, following which an encounter broke out.
In this encounter, two terrorists of the banned terrorist organization Al-Badr were killed.
According to police records, both the terrorists killed were classified as terrorists, the statement said. They were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. In addition, Imad Wani was involved in the attack on the policemen in Pulwama on 19 December.
Police said, before joining the terrorist ranks, Abdul Rashid was working as a terrorist aide and was also involved in an attack on a civilian in Chitragam, in which the said civilian was injured. From the encounter site, police said. Incriminating material, arms and ammunition have been recovered.
