Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday heaped praise on Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and shuttler PV Sindhu, who brought laurels to the country by winning medals at the World Athletics Championships and Singapore Open 2022 respectively. While addressing the nation during Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi said, friends, whether it is the classroom or the playground, today our youth are making the country proud in every field. This month, PV Sindhu has won her maiden Singapore Open title.

Neeraj Chopra also continued his stellar performance and won a silver medal for the country at the World Athletics Championships, he added. Sindhu won her maiden Singapore Open 2022 title by defeating Wang Xie of China in the women’s singles final in July. Neeraj won the silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. He won the nation a medal in the men’s javelin throw final by clocking 88.13m in his fourth attempt, ending a 19-year long wait at the championship.

The Prime Minister also lauded Suraj, India’s para-shuttlers and World Cadet Wrestling Championship gold winner. “Even in the Ireland Para Badminton International, our players have brought glory to the country by winning 11 medals. Indian players also performed well in the World Cadet Wrestling Championship held in Rome.

Modi said, our athlete Suraj has done wonders in Greco-Roman competition. He has won the wrestling gold medal in this event after a long gap of 32 years. For the players, this entire month has been full of action. At the same time, it is a matter of great honor for India to host the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai. The tournament started on 28th July and I had the privilege of attending its opening ceremony.

PM Modi said, Commonwealth Games also started in UK on the same day. He said, an Indian team full of youthful spirit is representing the country there. On behalf of the countrymen, I extend my best wishes to all the players and athletes. I am also happy that India is going to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as well.
