digital desk, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that more than 90 per cent of India’s adult population has received the first dose of the Kovid-19 vaccine.

The Prime Minister was speaking after virtually inaugurating the second campus of the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute in Kolkata.

He said that today more than 90 percent of India’s adult population has received a single dose of the vaccine. Within just 5 days, more than 1.5 crore children have also been given the dose of the vaccine.

The Prime Minister said, this achievement belongs to the whole country, of every government. I especially thank the scientists of the country, the vaccine manufacturers, our colleagues in the health sector for this achievement. It is because of everyone’s efforts that the country has taken that resolve to the summit, which we started from zero.

The Prime Minister said that the new campus would go a long way in providing affordable and state-of-the-art care facilities to the people of West Bengal, especially the poor and middle class families. The Prime Minister said, we have taken another strong step in the journey of resolve to provide best medical facilities to every citizen of the country.

The Prime Minister said that the country had started the year with vaccination for children in the age group of 15 to 18 years. At the same time, in the first week of the first month of the year itself, India is also achieving the historic milestone of 150 crore i.e. 1.5 billion vaccine doses.

He said that the dose of 150 crores in less than a year is a significant achievement and a symbol of the will power of the country. Modi said that it shows the new self-confidence, self-reliant India and pride of the country. The Prime Minister said that this shield of 150 doses of the vaccine becomes even more important as the cases are increasing due to the Omicron variant.

He said that till now around 11 crore doses of corona vaccine have been provided free of cost to West Bengal by the central government. He said that more than one and a half thousand ventilators, more than 9 thousand new oxygen cylinders have also been given to Bengal. He said that 49 PSA new oxygen plants have also started functioning.

The Prime Minister said that the Ayushman Bharat scheme is today becoming a global benchmark in terms of affordable and inclusive healthcare. Under PM-JAY, more than 2 crore 60 lakh patients have got their free treatment in hospitals across the country. Estimates show that in the absence of the scheme, the patients had to spend Rs 50 to 60 thousand crores. More than 17 lakh cancer patients were also benefitted under Ayushman Bharat scheme.

The scheme is promoting early detection and early treatment of critical diseases through regular screening of diseases like cancer, diabetes and hypertension. Health and Wellness Centers are helping in this campaign. In West Bengal also more than 5 thousand such centers have been set up. The Prime Minister said that more than 15 crore people in the country have been screened for oral, cervical and breast cancer.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Ministers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Dr. Subhash Sarkar, Shantanu Thakur, John Barla and Nisith Pramanik were present on the occasion.
