Operation Kark Indore, New Dunia Rep. During the first lockdown of Corona in 2020, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) caught the case of gutkha-cigarette smuggling. In this case of smuggling going on by making Indore the center, DGGI has taken out the account of tax evasion. Orders have been given to pay a total of Rs 13 thousand 78 crore 43 lakh 50 thousand 773 tax and penalty on 27 people manufacturing gutkha and smuggling it in other states.
In May-June 2020, DGGI took action under Operation Cancer. After continuous investigation, now the notices have been given to the concerned parties to deposit the arrears while calculating the tax evasion. The maximum tax collection of more than 600 crores has been done on a company named Triple A Enterprises of Indore. Vijay Kumar Nair is its creator. With this, recovery of Rs 441 crore has been done on Vishnu Essence. Ashok Kumar Daga and Amit Bothra are its operators. DGGI has made all of them accused of illegally manufacturing and distributing gutkha. Along with this, tax evasion of hundreds of crores has also been taken out on companies of B Ahmedabad and Anand.
It is noteworthy that earlier in Operation Cancer, DGGI has also issued demand notices on tax evasion of more than 1900 crores in cigarette smuggling. Cigarettes and gutkha were being manufactured from Indore and sent to Gujarat and especially Maharashtra. Gutkha is banned in Maharashtra, so taking advantage of the lockdown and restrictions, gutka was sold at arbitrary prices. The DRI had earlier caught a vehicle carrying gutkha. Sanjeev Mata and Sandeep Mata of Pakistan origin were caught, after which the entire racket was exposed on further spot.
