digital desk, Chandigarh. The Punjab Police has busted a large terror module backed by the International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) and arrested six of its members.
Along with this, the police have uncovered the case of grenade attack including attack on Pathankot military camp.
Director General of Police (DGP), V.K. Bhawra said here on Monday that the SBS Nagar police have recovered six grenades, one pistol (9 mm), one rifle (Point 30 bore) along with bullets and magazines from their possession.
The arrested people have been identified as Amandeep, Gurvinder Singh, Parminder Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Harpreet Singh and Raman Kumar, all residents of Gurdaspur.
According to the information, in two cases, some unidentified persons had thrown grenades in Pathankot – one near Chakki bridge at around 9.30 pm on November 11, 2021, the other outside Triveni gate, at Army’s 21 sub-field in Pathankot on November 21, 2021 Around 9 pm.
A separate FIR was registered in this regard in Pathankot.
The DGP said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that they were in contact with self-styled ISYF (Rode) chief Lakhbir Singh Rode and his close aide Sukhmeetpal Singh alias Sukh Bhikhariwal and Sukhpreet alias Sukh during the attack.
The entire stock of grenades, arms and ammunition recovered was pushed across the international border by Lakhbir Rode, the DGP said. The arrested accused persons were tasked to attack pre-determined targets, which were mainly police and defense establishments, religious places etc.
He told that the accused have also confessed to throwing hand grenades twice in Pathankot.
SBS Nagar SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said that the police have also registered a case at a police station in Nawanshahr. He said further investigation is on.
Significantly, Lakhbir Rode’s role has been found in the murder of Com. Balwinder Singh at Bhikhiwind on October 16, 2020, besides recovery of IED, RDX, arms and ammunition from his relative Gurmukh Singh Rode from Jalandhar in August 2021.
Sukhmeetpal Singh alias Sukh Bhikhariwal, who is presently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, was also involved in the murder of Comrade Balwinder Singh and the murderous attack on Honey Mahajan in Dhariwal on February 10, 2020.
He was deported from Dubai in December 2020. Sukh Bhikhariwal had provided fighters, arms and ammunition, logistics, money etc. to carry out criminal acts.
