Taliban’s acting foreign minister meets Ahmed Masood in Iran. Taliban’s acting foreign minister meets Ahmed Masood in Iran

digital desk, Kabul. The acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, Amir Khan Muttaki, is currently in Iran with a 26-member delegation. He held talks with National Resistance Front leader Ahmed Masood, during which he was assured of his safe return to Afghanistan. This information has come out from media reports.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid confirmed the meeting, with Ismail Khan, the former governor of Herat province, also saying in a tweet on Monday that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is trying to make the situation in Afghanistan safe and friendly for all so that the people to have no opportunity to oppose the IEA.

In another video posted by Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Taliban’s Qatar office, Muttaki was quoted as saying that yes, we met Ahmed Masood, Commander Ismail Khan and other Afghans. We assured them all that they can come. Go back and live life without worry.

Although the anti-Taliban National Resistance Front has yet to officially confirm the meeting, Hafiz Mansoor, a member of the coalition, said it had happened, Tolo News reported.

Iranian media reports quoted foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzada as saying that Tehran hosted the meeting, adding that there were good discussions between the Afghan parties.

Masood reportedly fled to Tajikistan last September after the Taliban captured the Panjshir Valley, Afghanistan’s last province.

Muttaki arrived in Tehran on Sunday for talks with Iranian officials on political, economic and transit issues as well as Afghan refugees in Iran.

This is the first official visit by a high-ranking Taliban delegation after taking over Afghanistan.

The Iranian delegation visited Kabul in November 2021, during which the two sides discussed bilateral issues.

Sources told Tolo News, however, that the Iranian government has not yet recognized the Taliban government. Abdul Qayyum Soleimani, the nephew of the former governor of Herat, has been appointed acting ambassador to Tehran by Muttaki.
