- Police officers can also be transgender
- Kerala Police Officers Association in support
Transgenders may soon become officers in the Kerala State Police. The government has recommended the inclusion of transgenders in the force. The recommendation for this has been submitted to the ADGP (Law and Order). ADGP will now contact his counterparts for opinion on this. This issue will be raised in the ADGP’s conference. Preliminary action has started at the Police Headquarters. The opinion of the Armed Police (AP) battalion responsible for police training will also be sought.
However, there are several factors to be considered before transgenders are inducted into the force. The ADGP meeting will discuss how transgenders will be inducted in the force, recruiting, training and in which areas they can be deployed.
The possibility of appointing him in law and order will be considered. The ADGP (Intelligence) is in charge of supporting all the votes. The report will then be submitted to the state police chief who will announce the decision later. Meanwhile, the Kerala Police Officers Association (KPOA) has come forward supporting the decision to include transgenders in the police force. Association general secretary CR Biju said that this decision is a big step of the government. “There should not even be a percentage of recruitment for women. Soon, we should recruit beyond gender considerations. Gender-based recruitment is not suitable for a society like ours,” he said.
