The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir took a special meeting of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. In this, many important decisions were taken regarding the safety of the pilgrims. It was decided in the meeting that in addition to the compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh, an additional amount of Rs 5 lakh each would be given to the kin of those killed in the stampede.

In the meeting, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the matter is being investigated. Along with reducing the congestion, necessary steps are being taken. The LG insisted on making special arrangements for the crowd and people standing in line. Instructions were given to prepare RFID tracking system. It was decided in the meeting that online booking of travel would be done 100%. Board members will monitor the necessary arrangements as per the instructions.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the special meeting of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) at Raj Bhavan today. This meeting was called in connection with the stampede that took place in Mata Vaishno Devi Bhavan on the intervening night of 31 December 2021 and 1 January 2022.

The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the reasons for the stampede incident. The Board appreciated the efforts of the Shrine Board, District Administration and Police personnel towards prompt rescue and timely shifting of the injured to the Shrine Board Hospital at Kakryal.

Implement masterplan in a phased manner

The Board directed the CEO to make concerted efforts to implement the master plan for the building sector in a phased manner. He also talked about speeding up the construction work and early completion of Durga Bhavan for the pilgrims. Instructions were issued to make necessary improvements in the second and third phases of the master plan to deal with all the challenges.

Discussion on preparing ropeway for old and disabled pilgrims

The board discussed the modalities of suspension bridge and skywalk for effective queue management. Ropeway for old and disabled pilgrims from Katra was also discussed. It was asked to consider re-introducing the token system that was discontinued six years ago. Two minutes silence was observed for the pilgrims who lost their lives in the stampede.

During this, Dr. Ashok Bhan, Justice (Retd), Pramod Kohli, Major General (Retd.), SK Sharma, KK Sharma, KB Kachru and Vijay Dhar, Member of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, SMVDSB CEO Ramesh Kumar attended the meeting. ran away.
